Corrugated iron roofing is very easy to install and is very durable and lightweight. However you need to observe some precautions when you install so that the final finished roofing is great.
Most of the time the rust that we see on corrugated iron sheet is due to faulty storage and handling. These roofing sheets are made from iron and hence tend to get damaged easily if not stored properly. Therefore when you are installing metal roofing it will be wise to let them stay at the manufacturer until the last moment when the time has come to fix them. In case the roofing is delivered before time you should ensure that they are stored in very dry condition. Moisture can ruin the roofing sheets as most of the people assume that since it is meant for roofing, it needs no precautions. The roofing sheets if stacked together and get wet then there are bound to form stains on the sheets which are not so easy to remove. If by chance the sheets get wet, you need to separate each sheet by using bearers which will allow air flow between the sheets preventing corrosion.

When you are handling the roofing sheets you should take care not to damage the surface coating of the sheets. Avoid sliding one sheet over the other. When you are separating the sheets just lift them off without scratching the other.
When you are fixing the roof choose roofing screws of good quality otherwise these might come off at the small pretext. And when you tighten the screws do not over tighten them; otherwise it will create unnecessary stress. You need to take accurate measurement to drill holes ensuring that as far as possible the purlins run parallel to the eaves. Therefore a quality drill bit is needed to execute the job and remember that the size of the drill bit should be slightly bigger than the size of the screw. This will leave room for expansion and contraction of the screws due to temperature fluctuations.
Wherever cutting of the corrugated iron roofing is required using a disc cutter will make the work smooth and fast. However the disadvantage of using disc cutter is that particles of steel are given off which gets lodged in the sheet which can damage the roofing iron. Using nibblers is a safe way of cutting the roofing without causing unnecessary damage. Hand shears are probably the best tool for the job; you can even prefer power shears as well.
While installing the roofing if you come across scratches you should not paint it. If you do it will form a permanent patch on the area which will stick out after a season or two. It will be better if you consult the manufacturer and seek advice for dealing with such blemishes.
Double Check and Finishing
Check whether the roof is square or not before you lay the roofing. In order to achieve good finish, you need to ensure that the roof is square and even. After the roofing has been fixed, clean it up so that iron particles are not left as these will rust and ruin the surface.
If you are careful with the installation of corrugated iron roofing you will have roofing that will not require any kind of serious maintenance for a long time.
